Do you have a fire hydrant outside your home or business?
If so, consider how important that source of water may become if your residence or business was subjected to a fire.
Now ask yourself, “What if that fire hydrant could not be found?”
With the winter months here and snowstorms approaching, firefighters are concerned that fire hydrants around the community may become obstructed (and thus less visible and accessible to the first-arriving engine companies) due to the accumulation of snow.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department is encouraging each neighbor and business owner to take the initiative and “adopt a hydrant.” Adoption means keeping a three-foot clearance around the fire hydrant, keeping it free of snow and other debris.
This simple act could be the most-important factor in the further protection of lives and property.
